  It believe that it is essential to always get your dog to master the basics first. The basics in my opinion are teaching your dog to sit, stay, and lay down. If you are going to teach them tricks then I think it is good to start with these before you move on to the fun stuff.

  Yes getting sam to know sit and stay first was very valuable. It helped us to then work on not running out the door.

  I just adopted a Catahoula Leopard dog one week ago and he has the commands sit, stay, lay down, and shake. I was rather impressed with his ability to learn so quickly. The only thing is I'm stuck. What other tricks can I teach my 9 week pup?

  Getting obedience tricks first is key. Then you can go for the fun stuff like roll over, and play dead. You have one smart dog Jamie!
